The Abarth Punto was initially launched as the Grande Punto in 2008 and was closely followed by a facelift in 2010 that rebranded the model as the Abarth Punto Evo (pictured). It was Fiat's answer to a sporty supermini with enhanced performance and bold design features that made it super distinct.
The Grande Punto model featured a number of engine choices, including the popular 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo petrol engine producing 153bhp. Later replaced by a 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine in the Evo model, this powertrain manages to save fuel thanks to its intelligent clever valve management and produces a respectable 163bhp.
The design of the Abarth Punto is the main differentiator to its Fiat sibling, bringing plenty of bold, sporty design cues both inside and out. Large bumpers, racy bodystyling, and roof spoilers were all added to the model to enhance its appearance, while the Evo facelift added a diffuser, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a range of new colour combinations.
Whilst the Abarth Punto beats many of its competitors in terms of price, there are a few models that offer better performance if you don't mind the higher price tag, including the Renaultsport Clio, Ford Focus ST, and Vauxhall Corsa VXR.
