Introducing the new Jeep Avenger
The Jeep brand is synonymous with creating chunky, iconic SUVs that are decent on-road, along with being impressive off-road, too.
But in a world where technology is constantly being chased, the Jeep line-up now includes its very first fully-electric Jeep, in the form of the impressive Avenger.
But, don't worry, if you still like your Jeeps with the more tradition internal combustion engine, you can also spec an Avenger that way too.
Design and Practicality
Jeep have never had a problem with design thanks to their textbook chunky SUV looks, and you'd expect nothing less from a brand that is literally named what most people call SUVs.
However, the Avenger definitely has some more polish to it, it's still unmistakably a Jeep, but offers more sophistication in its styling, which is certainly no bad thing.
And with a choice of petrol, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains to choose from, you can tailor an Avenger to your ideal requirements.
And, as for practicality, space is good and is enhanced by a 355-litre boot, increasing to 1,252 litres with the rear seats folded flat. You get 25 litres more space as standard in the non-electric version, again increasing to 1,277 litres with the rear seats folded.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
With the ability of being able to opt for a fully-electric Avenger, the tech on offer is pretty cutting-edge. With the hybrid option, too, the Avenger offers up-to-date power choices.
Then there's the interior, which is perhaps Jeep's most striking yet. A responsive 10.25-inch infotainment screen looks great, complemented by a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, too.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto of course come as standard, so staying connected is wonderfully simple.
And, as for safety, there's cutting-edge kit on offer too, which includes:
Standard:
- Cruise control
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Lane Keep Assist
- Driver Attention Assist
Optional:
- Blind spot monitor
- 180° rear camera with “drone view”
- 360° parking sensors
- Automatic high beam
Engines and Performance
There's a 1.2-litre petrol engine available with the Avenger, which produces 99bhp. This is also available with hybrid input, which increases economy from 50mpg, up to 57mpg. Despite its conservative size, it offers plenty of punch for this compact SUV.
Performance is enough to keep up with most traffic, with 0 to 62mph occurring in just over 10 seconds. The fully-electric version offers the best acceleration, dropping the 0 to 62mph time to 9 seconds flat.
The total range for the electric version can be as much as 249 miles generally, or up to 373 miles if just using in the city.
Charging
Like all electric cars, the electric version of the Jeep Avenger's charge time will depend on chosen method.
But it's possible to go from 20 percent to 80 percent charge in as little as 24 minutes.
