Launched in 2020, the Formentor is one of CUPRA's first models on offer, but they let off little indication of this fact. It's a great choice if you want something as exciting as CUPRA's Leon and Ateca, but need something a bit more practical.

Engines and Driving Experience
Offering a range of traditional petrol engines, as well as a couple of intelligent plug-in hybrid variants, the Formentor comes with a range of engines to suit differing needs. Automatic gearboxes make up most of the range, but manuals can be found within the 1.5-litre, 148bhp model.
The 2.0-litre petrol engines come as a 187bhp, 242bhp, or 306bhp variant, but don't feel as if you need the highest powered specification. Each engine offers an engaging and fun driving experience when pushed, but can be refined and comfortable when cruising.
The 1.4-litre plug-in e-Hybrid engine, with either 201bhp or 242bhp, offers better fuel economy figures. You'll also have the power to be emission-free when using the fully-electric driving range of up to 37 miles.
Practicality and Running Costs
The CUPRA Formentor's coupé SUV styling may lead you to believe it's not as practical as its competition, but you'd be surprised. A useful 450 litres of boot space can be found on front-wheel drive examples, falling to 420 litres on 4Drive models and 345 litres on those with the eHybrid powerplant.
The interior is fairly versatile as well, with the 60/40 split-folding rear seats opening up more space if required. Occupants will feel comfortable no matter where they're sat in the cabin thanks to generous amounts of head and legroom throughout.
Considering the performance of the Formentor, running costs won't be cheap, but they're not unreasonable. Insurance starts at group 19 (out of 50), but this can rise up to group 33 if you go for higher-powered models. Interior, Technology, and Safety
Featuring the usual copper-coloured CUPRA trim and accents around the cabin, the Formentor's interior is sleek and built to a high-quality. The Formentor comes well-equipped, with technology such as satellite navigation and adaptive cruise control coming as standard across the range, making journeys even more enjoyable. Opting for a higher specification model will also see you unlock further benefits such as heated seats and park assist.
CUPRA haven't forgotten about safety either, with the Formentor achieving the full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating thanks to a range of available features, such as:

The CUPRA Formentor possesses hatchback-like performance and combines it with SUV levels of practicality. Its versatile interior space and comfortable seats make it a great option for long journeys with the family as well as shorter stints around town.
If you need something less sporty and even more practical, the Skoda Karoq or popular Nissan Qashqai are great places to start. The Ford Puma is also highly rated across the board if you're working with a smaller budget.
Either way, CUPRA's entry with the Formentor shouldn't be overlooked as it's still great value for money.
