The Vauxhall Agila is a small, but practical, supermini that was in production between 2008 and 2013.
Best suited to town driving, the Agila's low weight and peppy engines make it easy to exploit gaps in traffic, while the light steering is welcome during parking manoeuvres. The 94bhp 1.2-litre is the strongest engine choice, and will return up to 55mpg relatively easily. Although, if you do quite a bit of mileage then look at the 1.3-litre diesel, which can achieve up to 62.8mpg.
Only available as a 5-door, the Agila is a practical choice for young families. Although, two adults will be able to get comfortable in the back thanks to the high roofline. The 225-litre boot isn't massive, but it's pretty good for this class of car, and grows to 1,050 litres once the 60:40 split-folding rear seats are flat. A CD player and 12v power socket come as standard, but luxuries such as air-conditioning and steering-wheel controls are available.
Annual road tax is very much affordable, and discounted servicing is available through Evans Halshaw via Vauxhall Service Club.
